Hawaii lawmakers have chosen to fight against market forces when it comes to energy security and every citizen is feeling the pinch. By dictating a “renewal” energy mandate to appease ideological not financial goals it has driven away competition and is artificially propping up the cost of electricity hurting Hawaii’s economy.
The legislative driven rejection NextEra’s bid to purchase HECO has obliterated the promise of lower electricity cost by converting our diesel fuel fired power plants to clean-low cost natural gas. Our Mono Party system with its lack of accountability has lost an opportunity to lower the cost of energy which is a key component of prosperity for Hawaii’s middle class.
